Future Forward: Empowering First Nations Careers with Veolia

As a young First Nations man, Tre understands the importance of working for an organisation that genuinely values and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. So when he came across Veolia Australia and New Zealand’s Future Forward programme, he was excited by the opportunity.

“I was searching for jobs that were looking for First Nations candidates, as to me, that indicates they are committed to making a change,” said Tre.

Future Forward or Get Into Veolia as it is known by The King’s Trust Australia, is a pioneering training and employment programme offered by Veolia. Designed specifically for First Nations peoples, it is delivered in partnership with The King’s Trust Australia, TAFENSW, Bullroarers, and the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES). The programme empowers participants to dream big, set ambitious goals, and take active steps toward building meaningful careers.

A key component of Future Forward is The King Trust Australia’s Achieve Programme, which is embedded into the programme design. It offers a unique and comprehensive vocational training experience, equipping participants with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen career paths.

“Future Forward was one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of,” said Tre.

“I’ve seen a lot of places ‘talk the talk’ when it comes to their RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan), so it was great to be involved with an organisation that’s actually putting its RAP into action by investing in real career opportunities for First Nations people.”

“Programmes like this aren’t just about learning; they’re about growing, connecting, and leading. It’s a chance to build skills, be mentored, and look ahead to opportunities in education, work, and leadership. For me, Future Forward is was a second chance at a life I want to live for myself and my family.”
