Success Story
Achieve Participant
Aged 25, Jeremy was struggling to find new employment after losing his carpentry job. He turned to drug use and then selling drugs, ultimately spending time in a correctional centre in Melbourne. After struggling with the separation from his long- term partner, Jeremy was motivated to change his circumstances and began working with The Y Rebuild team to gain employment.
One of Jeremy’s key goals was developing his leadership skills. As part of Achieve’s “Speak With Confidence” module, he took on the responsibility of onboarding two new maintenance team members. His crew leader, Allan, quickly recognised Jeremy’s potential: “Jeremy is a fast learner who demonstrates initiative and gets on with what he is asked or needs to do.”
“He is switched on, mechanically minded, and that has been incredibly helpful.”
The more Jeremy learned, the more motivated he became. He found pride in problem-solving and using his hands again, sharing:
“I enjoy this work as it helps me improve my brain power. I have to stop and think about what I need to do to make this work — and what tools I can use,” Jeremy explained.
Today, Jeremy is equipped with newfound confidence, practical skills, and a mindset focused on growth. With the support of The Y Rebuild and The King’s Trust Australia, he is on a strong path toward securing full-time employment and creating a future he can be proud of.
