The King’s Trust Australia’s Executive Director, Dean Delia, had the honour of presenting the Best Directing Award at the Australian Youth Film Festival last Saturday. On the 4th of July, young filmmakers gathered at The Capitol Theatre in Melbourne to celebrate their achievements and contributions. There were 74 nominees chosen from 1,216 entries submitted from all over Australia. Founded by Festival Director and The King’s Trust New Zealand alumnus Ryan Chow, the festival aims to support and champion emerging talent in the Australian film industry.
The Best Directing award recognises outstanding creative vision, technical ability, and leadership behind the scenes. This prestigious recognition was highly competitive, and featured directors of all different genres of film.

And the winner is… Sam Davison! Sam is the director of the one-take action-comedy short film, ‘Is This A Robbery?’ Producer Danni Fenech accepted the award on Sam’s behalf.
The King’s Trust Australia has committed to providing mentoring and promotion to the award winner, to assist the new generation of Australian filmmakers reach their fullest potential. We want to congratulate Ryan on his entrepreneurship, his spirit, and his dedication, bringing to life something so ambitious and rewarding. And congratulations to all winners, nominees, and entrants to the Australian Youth Film Festival – the future of Australian cinema is in good hands!
