On March 18, The King’s Trust Group published the latest report in their future of work series titled "A Digital Disconnection? How a holistic view of our digital future can better support opportunities for young people”.

Employers, educators and young people often have different perspectives on digital jobs and skills, leading to a disconnect. This report aims to bridge that gap by putting young people at the centre of the debate and providing a holistic framework for understanding digital skills development.

The report centres the voices of young people with findings taken from focus groups conducted in five countries – Australia, India, Kenya, Nigeria and the UK.

A key takeaway from the report emphasises the need for spaces where young people can share their experiences and input into solutions that allow them to feel in control.

The report highlights the role that governments, education institutions, employers and civic society organisations all have in working with young people to understand and access the wide range of opportunities presented by the tech transformation. Without collaboration, young people are at risk of being left behind, especially those from low-income backgrounds.

Michelle Endacott, CEO King’s Trust Australia added:

“This report emphasises the importance of platforms that give young people the opportunity to voice their concerns on issues that affect their future of work. The solutions to these challenges can only be found by taking a collaborative approach that supports young people, wherever they are.”
