The King’s Trust Australia has supported the launch of a new charity – The King’s Foundation Australia.
His Majesty King Charles III launched The King’s Foundation Australia at a reception at Admiralty House, Sydney, during The King and Queen’s Royal Visit to Australia.
The two charities are both committed to helping Australian communities in very distinct ways:
- The King’s Trust Australia, in its 11th year, helps young people explore the world of work, inspires veterans into entrepreneurship, and works on environmental projects.
- The King’s Foundation Australia champions sustainable, heritage lead restoration projects. Its first major project is the restoration of the historic Hillview Estate, the former Vice-Regal summer residence for NSW Governors.
The King’s Foundation Australia inaugural CEO is Justin Hewitt, who is transferring from his role as Executive Director of The King’s Trust Australia.
Justin has a successful history with the Trust, leading major projects including the rebuild of the bushfire-devastated hall at Stokes Bay, Kangaroo Island, South Australia, the Cowper Street social housing development in Glebe, and the Enduring Design Masterclass at the University of Queensland.
The King’s Trust Australia Project Lead Alexander Dowthwaite, who has played an integral role in all these projects, is also transferring to The King’s Foundation Australia.
The King’s Trust Australia wishes Justin and Alexander much success and looks forward to working together on projects to help the Australian community.
The first project for The King’s Foundation Australia will take inspiration from Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, the Foundation’s flagship regeneration project in the UK.
The King’s Foundation Australia has acquired the long-term lease of the Hillview Estate in New South Wales which will be its first flagship regeneration project, as well as the base for developing the charity’s activities. The King’s Trust Australia will join with the Foundation to hold programming for young people at the Estate, after major conservation works are complete.
