Enduring Design Masterclass, The University of Queensland

Applications are now closed for the 2024 Enduring Design Masterclass, run in partnership with the University of Queensland. Stay tuned for 2025 dates.

The Enduring Design Masterclass is the first of its kind in Australia. Drawing from the University of Queensland’s highly regarded expertise in Indigenous architecture, and The King’s Trust Australia and INTBAU’s extensive knowledge in traditional design and trades skills from across the globe, the course will equip students with a strong, hands-on grounding in the diverse traditional building cultures of Australia, reconnecting them with the enduring design traditions that have stood the test of time. Course participants will learn the theory and practice of traditional building and design, from indigenous knowledge to traditional crafts, and develop practical skills in stone masonry, traditional carpentry, bricklaying, architectural drawing and more.

“It’s been a once in a lifetime opportunity to get hands on experience from some of Australia’s leading people in traditional craftsmanship and traditional, sustainable design. The way to a sustainable future is through past learnings and techniques.” Said Enduring Design Masterclass Student Natalee Smith.

Course duration: 22 July – 14 October 2024.
