The Cowper Street Development in Glebe, Sydney, is the result of a partnership between the New South Wales State Government and The King’s Trust Australia.
Comprised of 75 new social apartments and terrace houses, the development reflects the architectural heritage of surrounding historic wool store buildings and the unique Victorian terraces of Glebe.
The development will use sustainable initiatives such as a cross-laminated timber structure, rooftop gardens, solar power, on-site bike-parking, green space and water retention to achieve the highest sustainability ratings possible of Six Star Green Stars. Cross-laminated timber (‘CLT’) uses glued layers of timber to create a very strong structural frame for the development that is produced sustainably in Australia.
It will also incorporate public art being created in consultation with the local Indigenous community by Indigenous artist, Dennis Golding.
The Cowper Street development will become home to a community of around 130 new social housing residents and provide over 250 jobs during the life of the project. It has an expected completion date of early 2025.
